About Dr David McDowell

Personal Profile

Dr David McDowell qualified from The University of Manchester Medical School in 1983. He trained in the North West region and was appointed as a Consultant in Pain Management and Anaesthesia in 1993 at Burnley General Hospital. He was employed as a Consultant in Pain Management at Salford Royal Hospital NHS Trust from 1995 to 2011.

Since 2011, Dr McDowell works as a full-time specialist pain consultant in the independent health sector.

Dr McDowell was a founder member of the Cambridge Medico Legal conference and has been providing expert witness reports for the court for over 25 years. He has attended court on numerous occasions and lectures regularly on the subject of medico legal aspects of chronic pain. He accepts instructions from both defendant and claimants in the field of personal injury and medical negligence. He has participated in educational webinars on the subject of chronic pain after whiplash injury.

Since 2017, he has been a member of Orthteam in Manchester; this is a long established group of like-minded specialists who work together to share ideas and best practice.

He is a member of the BMA, The Pain Society, The Northwest Pain Group and The Faculty of Pain Medicine in the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
