Personal Profile

Dr David O'Brien is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Clinical Associate Professor.

Dr David O'Brien completed general cardiology and interventional cardiology training in both the UK and Canada, before returning to work as a consultant interventional cardiologist in the UK.

He has held numerous management positions within the NHS locally, including those of Clinical Lead and Clinical Director for Cardiology at ULHT.  He was appointed Clinical Associate professor in Medical Education at the University of Nottingham in 2020 and is currently the Director of Admissions and also the Widening Participation and Outreach Champion for the Lincoln Medical School. He currently divides his time between his clinical practice and work for the University of Nottingham and Lincoln Medical School pursing his passion for medical education and training.

His clinical practice covers all aspects of general cardiology, with a special interest in the management of coronary artery disease and in particular, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI/Angioplasty). He also holds SCCT level 2 accreditation in cardiac CT. He is a member of the BCIS training and education working group.

He is an advocate of the use of the radial artery in the arm, rather than the traditional femoral (leg) approach and use the radial artery in the majority of my interventional procedures.
