Dr David Lai Chin Kon is a Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in advanced echocardiography and valvular heart disease. He is currently based at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, where he provides comprehensive care across the full spectrum of cardiovascular conditions, including chest pain, coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and valvular heart disease.
He graduated from the University of Leicester in 2010 and completed his specialist cardiology training in the North West of England.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and holds a Master’s degree from the University of Edinburgh. He was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Cardiology in 2021.
Dr Lai Chin Kon has particular expertise in echocardiography, including stress and transoesophageal imaging, and plays an active role locally in multidisciplinary team decision-making in complex cardiac echocardiography patients. He has led the development of an innovative urgent valve clinic pathway, significantly reducing waiting times for patients requiring specialist assessment and intervention.
Alongside his clinical work, he is actively involved in medical education and currently leads the departmental teaching. He also regularly teaches medical students and junior doctors. He has also contributed to research and quality improvement projects and has presented his work at national and international cardiology conferences.
Dr Lai Chin Kon is known for his patient-focused approach and clear communication, ensuring patients feel informed and supported throughout their care.
