About Mr Daniel Cohen

Personal Profile

Mr Cohen was awarded a commendation when he received his Medical Degree from the University of Liverpool. Following this, he completed Higher Surgical Training on the Mersey rotation, before embarking on Complex Hip and Knee Replacement Fellowships.

He was appointed as the John Charnley International Arthroplasty Fellow at Wrightington Hospital, in addition to national and international travelling fellowships and visitations to Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA; Musgrave Park Hospital, Belfast; Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford and The Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham.

Mr Cohen has published and presented nationally and internationally and was the recipient of the Jacques Duparc Award from the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics & Traumatology. He has also lectured and taught on a number of meetings and courses nationally, and has been awarded a Diploma in Clinical Education from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

He provides a patient-centred hip and knee arthroplasty service at The Highfield Hospital. This includes complex primary hip and knee replacements for arthritis, developmental hip dysplasia and avascular necrosis, and revision surgery for infection, aseptic loosening and instability. Using an enhanced recovery programme, he is able to reduce the length of hospital stay following arthroplasty surgery, whilst maintaining comfort and aiming to achieve low complication and mortality rates, as well as excellent PROMS and NJR data.

In addition, he is the Joint Replacement Lead at Pennine Acute NHS Trust of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group. This involves leading the hip and knee surgeons at Fairfield General Hospital’s Arthroplasty Unit.

Mr Cohen also runs an NHS consultant-led adult and paediatric trauma service at the Trauma Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital, which includes the management of periprosthetic and articular fractures of the lower limb.

With a Diploma in Clinical Education, Mr Cohen has been actively involved in surgical training at all levels, both locally and nationally. This includes his current roles as Clinical Supervisor to foundation year trainees at The Royal Oldham Hospital, final year medical students from the University of Manchester, and Clinical Lecturer for junior doctors at Pennine Acute NHS Trust.

Mr Cohen was appointed an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the School of Health Sciences, University of Salford Manchester, for his ongoing work and teaching in the fields of Hip Surgery and Biomechanics.
