About Dr Dana Ismail

Personal Profile

Dr Ismail is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Internal Medicine Physician. He finished his training in the East of England and accomplished his advanced nutrition training at the world-renowned St. Mark’s Hospital in London and small bowel transplant training at Cambridge University Hospital. 

In 2017, he was appointed as a consultant at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, and as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of East Anglia. He was the lead consultant for artificial nutrition, nutrition in motor neuron disease and the feeding issues MDT. Due to his contribution and skills in clinical nutrition, he was recruited by the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire in 2022 to expand their intestinal failure unit.  

Dr Ismail treats private self-funded and insured patients. He is an excellent listener and pays attention to the physical and psychological impact of disease on his patients. 

His clinical interests are dyspepsia, dysphagia, gastroesophageal reflux, Eosinophilic Oesophagitis, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, constipation, abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome, abnormal liver function tests, artificial feeding tubes (PEG), unintentional weight loss, chronic diarrhoea, Coeliac disease, nutritional/eating disorders, medical management of post-bariatric surgery, dysmotility disorders, intestinal failure, and endoscopy.  

For those patients who would like consultant nutritional input in weight management, Dr Ismail offers special 1:1 session(s), enlightening them in techniques and healthy approaches to weight loss and monitoring. These sessions are only available via his secretary by special appointment and agreement.

Dr Ismail is multilinguistic, speaking three languages (English, Kurdish, and Arabic).

Outside of work, he loves sports and music.
