He completed his specialist training in the East of England before undertaking advanced nutrition training at the internationally recognised St Mark’s Hospital, London, and small bowel transplant training at Cambridge University Hospitals.
In 2017, Dr Ismail was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of East Anglia. During this time, he served as the lead consultant for artificial nutrition, nutrition in motor neurone disease, and the multidisciplinary team managing feeding-related conditions.
In recognition of his expertise in clinical nutrition, he was recruited by University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire in 2022 to support the expansion of its intestinal failure service.
