Mr White is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at both Woodlands Hospital in Darlington and The Duchy Hospital in Harrogate. He has 24 years experience and has been employed at the South Tees NHS Trust, based at James Cook University Hospital since 2010. He does both planned orthopaedic surgery and covers orthopaedic trauma.

He has a practice in hip and knee surgery and an interest in young adults with hip pain due to early arthritis or injury, for which he provides a specialist referral service in the North of England. He performs hip arthroscopy, by means of keyhole surgery and hip impingement surgery using both open and arthroscopic techniques, as well as realignment surgery. Mr White performs hip and knee joint replacements, including revision surgery. Each year, he carries out over 250 joint replacements and 50 hip arthroscopies. He has excellent outcomes and participates fully in all national monitoring.

He has a keen interest in robotic surgery for hip and knee replacements and uses the MAKO robotic system at Woodlands Hospital.

Mr White trained as a doctor at King’s College Hospital at The University of London and qualified in 1998, after gaining his MBBS. He has undertaken extensive training and development which includes surgical training in London and the South East, and gained his membership at The Royal College of Surgeons in 2001. He was appointed to the West Midlands training program, based out of The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, The University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire and The University of Warwick. He also undertook senior training posts in hip, knee and trauma training.

He undertook further fellowship training in Ottawa, Canada, in the management of young hip and knee disorders, including hip arthroscopy and osteotomies (realignment), as well as reconstruction of the failing hip replacement. He was awarded a fellowship by The University of Ottawa. In addition, he is also an Honorary Lecturer at the Faculty of Health Studies, Teesside University. He has presented research papers at various national and international meetings and continues to lead multiple research studies associated with his practice.

He has held various leadership roles throughout his career and continues to lead on initiatives at James Cook. He is also actively involved in the Medical Advisory Committee at Woodlands Hospital.

Mr White has a keen interest in training the doctors of the future and has held the position of President of the National Trainees Organisation for Orthopaedics, serving on the Council of The Royal College of Surgeons in London and Edinburgh, as well as the British Orthopaedic Association.

He offers outpatient consultations and has operating days weekly at both Woodlands and The Duchy Hospital, offering a first-class service to both private and NHS patients who have hip and knee problems.

Mr White likes to offer individual care to his patients and takes time to inform them of all of the options available to them, and devise a plan of care with each individual.

He works with a cohesive team who always strive to put the patient at the centre of all they do.
