Mr MacKay has been a Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon since 2003 and has practiced at Ross Hall Hospital since 2007. He trained in the West of Scotland before being appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in the Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow.

Mr MacKay was then asked to move to Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 2007 to centralise upper GI cancer surgery. He has trained junior surgical doctors in major cancer surgery and general surgery. He is currently Clinical Director for Surgical Specialties in Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Mr MacKay has previously been Lead Clinician for the West of Scotland Upper GI Cancer Managed Clinical Network and the Scottish representative on the Association of Upper GI surgeons Council.
