Professional Profile

Ciaran McGarvey is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist practice in knee surgery. He was appointed consultant at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (Heatherwood and Wexham Park) in 2017. His practice includes sports injuries and chronic conditions affecting the knee.

Mr McGarvey graduated from Cambridge University in 2004, and completed specialist orthopaedic training at Guy’s, King’s, and St Thomas’s Hospitals in London. He spent a further year working with two internationally recognised knee surgeons: Professor Ponky Firer in Johannesburg and Mr Tim Spalding in Coventry. Alongside his orthopaedic training, he was matchday team doctor for Saracens Rugby Club from 2012-2016.

Mr McGarvey performs knee ligament reconstruction, meniscus repair and cartilage repair. He treats patellofemoral pain and instability. For early knee osteoarthritis he performs joint-preserving surgery such as osteotomy and focal resurfacing. For established arthritis he performs joint replacement, including partial and total knee replacement.
