Personal Profile

Professor Imray is a vascular, renal transplant and trauma surgeon at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. He has wide-ranging, strong interest in research and has published over 180 papers.

Professor Imray has interests in a wide range of treatments for varicose veins including: 

  • Endovenous thermo-ablation including microwave and laser
  • Foam sclerotherapy 
  • Open surgery
  • Treatment of thread veins including microinjection and photoderm

He also sees and treats a wide range of arterial disease including claudication, poor circulation, aneurysmal diseases and carotid disease.

He has written several book chapters and books. He was awarded his Chair at Warwick Medical School in 2009, and appointed Director of Research, Development and Innovation and Associate Medical Director at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust in 2011.

Professor Imray is a world expert in frostbite and high-altitude medicine. He has climbed the highest peak on each continent between 1990-2019 including doing research near the summit of Everest. He is the Civilian Advisor to the British Army for Vascular Surgery. He is an elected member to the Vascular Society Council and an Examiner for the Final Fellowship Exam. He is the Chair Elect of the Vascular Society Research Committee.

He is the only medicolegal expert in the UK focusing exclusively on cold injuries.

  • Veins-Modern minimally invasive vein surgery including VNUS, EVLT and foam sclerotherapy and the treatment of thread veins
  • Arterial surgery- carotid, aortic aneurysm and peripheral vascular disease
  • Venous access surgery for chemotherapy- minimally invasive portacath and Hickman lines
