About Dr Christine Leong

Personal Profile

Dr Christine Leong is a Consultant Diabetologist, Endocrinologist and General Physician based at Croydon University Hospital and Shirley Oaks Hospital. Originally from Singapore, she qualified from Guys, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine, London in 2006. Dr Leong then trained in South London and North West England before obtaining her MRCP (Member of Royal College of Physicians) in 2009.  

Dr Leong holds dual accreditation in both General Internal Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology, having completed higher specialist training in South East London. During her senior registrar years, she worked at the prestigious King’s College Hospital, renowned for both Diabetes and Endocrine research and clinical care. Dr Leong undertook an additional year to pursue an interest in Medical Education, achieving a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education from King’s College London and the award of the Fellowship of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in 2020.  

Dr Leong has been a substantive NHS consultant since 2017. Her clinical interests include peri-operative diabetes care, general endocrinology and weight management. She is ‘SCOPE’ accredited (Specialist Certification of Obesity Professional Education Programme) with extensive clinical experience in the medical management of obesity.  

Dr Leong is dedicated to delivering personalised, pragmatic and holistic care for all her patients. She has led on numerous investigations and quality improvement programmes to ensure patient safety and maintain high quality diabetes care. She has implemented peri-operative patient pathways for people with diabetes who require urgent optimisation of their condition prior to surgery. Dr Leong is passionate about both undergraduate and postgraduate training having been an Honorary Senior Lecturer for King’s College London. She is also an Educational Supervisor and Appraiser. In recognition of these achievements, she was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, London (FRCP) in 2020.  

During her spare time, Dr Leong enjoys reading, gardening, honing her culinary skills in various exotic cuisines, travelling abroad and spending time with her young family.
