He qualified in 2002 from the University of Liverpool and completed his core and higher surgical training in the region, including a higher degree before obtaining his FRCS in 2013 and going onto the GMC’s Specialist Register in 2014. He then completed a one year fellowship at Guildford before being appointed as a Consultant in September 2015 at the University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire. He subsequently returned to the North West in 2018, working at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital before starting at Salford Royal in January 2022.
The three years spent at Coventry gave extensive experience of high volume general as well as upper GI surgery and the posts at Liverpool and Salford have given experience of high volumes of sub-speciality cases. The majority of recent operative experience is spent doing major cancer resections and complex laparoscopic benign surgery (such as anti-reflux and hiatal hernias), as well as primary and revisional bariatric (weight loss) surgery.
The regional Upper GI ‘on call’ at Salford brings significant experience of managing complex cases, including those returning from surgery abroad. From a non-clinical point of view, Mr Grocock has spent much of his non-clinical time on teaching and training including a period as the Training Programme Director for Core Surgical Training for HEENW and also a period as Vice Chair of Division of Surgery at Salford Royal. He is currently the clinical lead for bariatric surgery at Salford.
