After gaining postgraduate qualification in 1985 Dr Kukendrarajah worked in the National Centre for Social Communication disorder, Harper House Children's Service in Radlett and various teaching hospitals (St Mary's Paddington and The Royal Free Hospital). During her Paediatric training she specialised in neurodisability and received Masters at University College London (UCL).

Dr Kukendrarajah has a particular interest in social communication disorders such as autism spectrum disorders and co existing conditions (ADHD, DCD, and Sleeping and Feeding disorders). She also has an extensive experienced in the diagnostic assessment, investigation and management of children and young people where there are concerns ranging from mild developmental delay, such as lateness with talking or walking, to more complex developmental disorders including chromosomal anomalies, motor disorders such as cerebral palsy. She has extensive experience of working with a multidisciplinary team of professionals involving speech & language therapy, clinical psychology, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy. In addition she has experienced with working with the wider paediatric network and with local agencies including education and social services.

Dr Kukendrarajah is fully trained and experienced in standardised assessments (3Di, DISCO, and Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and Bayley III. Within NHS role, Dr Kukendrarajah has developed a service for the autism spectrum disorder and co-existing conditions in Hillingdon. She continuously reviews and updates her skills in line with current evidence and NICE/SIGN guidelines to achieve high quality services.
