Dr Ramesh graduated in medicine from the Medical College Trivandrum, University of Kerala, India. Upon arrival for postgraduate training in the UK, he worked in different Paediatric units across the country. He had the opportunity to work with nationally and internationally reputed Paediatric Consultants and specialists with different interest and expertise Paediatrics.
In 1996 Dr Ramesh was appointed as a Consultant Paediatrician in the NHS: currently at the West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust. He is a General Paediatrician with special interest General Paediatrics, Neonatology, Paediatric neurology and Epilepsy. Until 2011, he had been the lead for the Neonatal Unit. Currently he is leading Paediatric Epilepsy service for the Trust. He sees children referred to the Paediatric department with various neurological problems such as Epileptic and non-epileptic seizures, headaches, tic disorders or with He is closely involved in the North Thames Paediatric Epilepsy Network (NTPEN) that holds regular meetings at Great Ormond Street Hospital. He shares some of the complex epilepsy patients with Neurology colleagues at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Dr Ramesh has been involved in the National Epilepsy 12 Audit organised by the RCPCH and HQUIP with good feedback.
Dr Ramesh was a panel member for the Child Health Review for the RCPCH. This team looked at various aspects of the management of children died of epilepsy or those admitted to the high dependency unit or intensive care unit. This review identified several areas of concerns in the acute management of children presenting with seizures and subsequent care. An abstract has been published at the RCPCH meeting.
Dr Ramesh is up to date with training in epilepsy management with the PET courses organised by the BPNA; he has completed the PET 1, PET 2 and PET 3 Courses in 2018.
Dr Ramesh had been involved in different national and international studies as a collaborator and principal investigator for the Trust, such as the UK infantile spasm study (UKISS). Eclipse Study and The National Tourette’s Syndrome Study.
Until 2019 Dr Ramesh had been the lead for clinical governance in Paediatrics, chairing and coordinating the agenda, organising speakers and taking minutes and distributing the minutes.
Until 2019. Dr Ramesh lead the clinical audit for the department and work closely with the clinical audit department. He was directly involved in various local, national, and international clinical audits and supervise several audits by the juniors. He did bring in changes in practice and implemented some of the established national guidelines in the department.
He has presented several posters in RCPCH and other national and local meetings.
Dr Ramesh is actively involved in teaching and training the junior doctors and medical students, At Watford General Hospital, there are medical students from University College, Imperial and from St George’s University, Grenada. He teaches regularly for the FY trainees and the GP colleagues. He has been offered an honorary clinical lecturer post from University College London (UCL). Dr Ramesh is also a Programme Director for Paediatrics by the St Georges University of Grenada (SGU). He has been awarded an Honorary Asst Professor post in Paediatrics by SGU.
Dr Ramesh is actively involved with OSCE at Watford and UCL. He regularly examine undergraduates from UCL and Royal Free and the undergraduate FCCE examination by the SGU.
Dr Ramesh is a college examiner for DCH and MRCPCH examinations for the RCPCH. He is involved in the question setting meeting organised by the RCPCH.
Dr Ramesh had been an appraiser for the Trust, appraising the consultants and Speciality training doctors including associate specialist and staff grade doctors. He is also an educational supervisor for the trainees in Paediatrics and General practice.
Dr Ramesh has an interest in reading, particularly ancient history and spirituality, practices yoga and walks regularly to relax himself. He also has an interest in arts, drawing and painting.
