Mrs Carol Selth is a highly experienced Consultant Podiatric Surgeon with over three decades of service within the NHS, including more than 23 years dedicated to the specialist field of podiatric surgery. Her career reflects a deep commitment to clinical excellence, patient care, and the advancement of podiatric surgical services.
Mrs Selth began her professional journey at the London Foot Hospital and School of Podiatric Medicine, where she completed her undergraduate training in podiatry. She subsequently undertook her surgical training at Charing Cross Hospital, one of the UK's leading centres for surgical education. In recognition of her expertise and contributions to the field, she was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Podiatric Surgeons in 2002. She also holds a Podiatric Surgery Annotation from the University of Huddersfield and maintains registration with the Health Care Professions Council.
Throughout her career, Mrs Selth has performed over 9,000 podiatric surgical procedures under local, regional, and general anaesthesia. Her extensive surgical experience spans a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, and she is known for her meticulous approach and consistently high standards of care. Her outcomes are regularly audited through the national PASCOM database, with recent results showing that 95% of patients felt their expectations of surgery were met, and 98% reported their foot was “better” or “much better” following treatment.
In 2003, Mrs Selth established the Podiatric Surgery Service in West Kent, a pioneering initiative that has since become a model of high-quality, cost-effective care. Under her leadership, the Department of Foot Health in West Kent was modernised to deliver a specialist NHS service tailored to the needs of the local population. Her work has significantly improved access to surgical care and enhanced patient outcomes across the region.
Mrs Selth has held the position of NHS Consultant Podiatric Surgeon at Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust since 2004. She serves as Joint Clinical Lead for the Podiatric Surgery Service, where she plays a key role in clinical governance, service development, and strategic planning. Her leadership has been instrumental in maintaining the service’s reputation for excellence and innovation.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Mrs Selth is deeply involved in education and training. She is a registered surgical tutor with the Royal College of Podiatry and actively mentors surgical trainees, contributing to the development of the next generation of podiatric surgeons. Her teaching is informed by her vast clinical experience and her commitment to evidence-based practice.
Mrs Selth continues to be a driving force in podiatric surgery, combining clinical expertise with a passion for service improvement and professional development. Her dedication to patient care, surgical excellence, and education makes her a valued member of the Chaucer Hospital team and a respected figure within the wider podiatric community.
