Mr Rooney is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Glasgow specialising entirely in surgery of the knee.
Following graduation from Glasgow University in 1993, he trained as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Tayside and Glasgow before completing a specialist knee fellowship in a leading European knee surgery clinic in Grenoble, in the French Alps, who pioneered the use of computer navigation in knee surgery.
He was appointed as a Consultant in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, in 2005 before moving to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in 2015 where he maintains a busy and active NHS practice as one of the specialist knee surgeons. Since his appointment he has been involved in the advancement of computer navigation techniques for knee replacement surgery and the development of unicompartmental knee replacements for arthritis of the knee.
