Personal profile

Mr Dobbins is a Consultant General Surgeon at the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust, with a specialist interest in upper gastro-intestinal and minimal invasive surgery. He qualified in 1990 from Liverpool University and became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow in 1995.

He came to Yorkshire in 1996 to perform research at Leeds General Infirmary, and his specialist surgical training was completed in the Yorkshire Region where he had the pleasure of working with many well-respected surgeons including Professor McMahon, Mr Chris Royston and Mr Henry Sue-Ling amongst others.

Mr Dobbins has been trained in the management of both benign and malignant upper GI diseases. He has a particular interest in minimal invasive surgery and has been trained in laparoscopic cholecystectomy, inguinal hernia repair, Nissen fundoplication and splenectomy.

Whilst working in Leeds and Hull, he has gained experience in performing laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedures for morbid obesity. This and an interest in clinical nutrition, nurtured during his time of research. Other general surgical skills acquired during his training include both diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy and many other aspects within the field of gastro-intestinal surgery.
