About Bala Satyanarayana Reddy

Personal Profile

Mr Bala Reddy is a highly experienced Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon with a main private practice based at Droitwich Spa Hospital. He specialises in laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal surgery, hernia surgery, colorectal cancer treatment, and diagnostic endoscopy, including colonoscopy procedures.

He provides comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of bowel and abdominal conditions. His clinical work includes the diagnosis and surgical management of colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel conditions, hernias, and other general surgical conditions affecting the abdomen and digestive tract. He is experienced in both elective and urgent surgical care, ensuring patients receive timely assessment and treatment.

Mr Reddy originally qualified in Medicine in India before moving to the UK, where he completed his higher surgical training in Yorkshire. During this period, he developed a strong academic and clinical interest in gastrointestinal surgery and outcomes research. He received several prestigious awards for his research into gut barrier function and the restoration of bowel function following major surgery.

His academic achievements include the Moynihan Medal from the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, the Syme Medal from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and the Leeds Regional Surgical Club Medal. These awards reflect his contribution to surgical research and excellence during his training.

In 2012, Mr Reddy was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and appointed as a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. He later completed an advanced laparoscopic colorectal fellowship in Portsmouth, training alongside internationally recognised colorectal surgeon Professor Amjit Parvaiz. This fellowship further strengthened his expertise in minimally invasive colorectal surgery.

Since becoming a consultant, Mr Reddy has played an important role in developing and expanding minimally invasive surgical services across Worcestershire. He has helped introduce laparoscopic hernia surgery at The Alexandra Hospital and has contributed to improving access to laparoscopic colorectal procedures for patients in Redditch, Kidderminster, and surrounding areas.

Alongside his surgical practice, he is committed to improving patient outcomes through the use of advanced keyhole techniques, which reduce post-operative pain, shorten hospital stays, and support faster recovery. He also works closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure patients receive coordinated, high-quality care from diagnosis through to treatment and follow-up.
