Dr Babur Javaid is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with extensive experience in the assessment and management of a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions. His practice covers both general gastroenterology and more specialist areas, with a focus on delivering clear, evidence-based care.

Dr Javaid has trained and worked in gastroenterology and general internal medicine in the UK since 1995, gaining experience alongside recognised experts in the field which has equipped him well for dealing with both common and complex digestive disorders.

Dr Javaid has a particular clinical interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. As a clinical lead for IBD services, he is involved in the organisation and delivery of care for patients with these long-term conditions. His work includes diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management, often coordinating care with specialist nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

He also has an interest in Barrett’s oesophagus, including its monitoring and management. This involves regular assessment where appropriate, with a focus on identifying and managing any changes at an early stage.

A significant part of Dr Javaid’s work involves endoscopy, including both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy. He is actively involved in training other clinicians in endoscopy, contributing to maintaining standards and supporting the development of new specialists.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr Javaid is involved in medical education. He has completed formal training in clinical education and contributes to the teaching and supervision of junior doctors and trainees. He also acts as an examiner for postgraduate medical examinations through the Royal College of Physicians.

Dr Javaid has participated in clinical research, including roles as a principal investigator and co-investigator in multi-centre studies. His research interests include inflammatory bowel disease, Barrett’s oesophagus, and endoscopic practice. This work supports ongoing improvements in patient care and treatment approaches.

Alongside his specialist interests, Dr Javaid sees patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal symptoms and conditions. These include abdominal pain, reflux, indigestion, bloating, changes in bowel habit, and gastrointestinal bleeding.
