About Mr Ashley Topps

Personal Profile

Mr Topps read medicine at Cambridge University (gaining a master’s degree) and University College London. He trained in surgery in London, the South West of England and Manchester. This included a Fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, learning from some of the leading surgeons in the country. He has been awarded a Master of Surgery degree in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery - Europe’s highest qualification for oncoplastic surgeons.

On completing his training in 2016 he was immediately appointed as a Consultant Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon at the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust where he operates on hundreds of breast patients annually. He is clinical effectiveness lead for General and Breast surgery - responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care are delivered based on the best evidence.

Mr Topps is actively involved in the training the next generation of surgeons and is a General Medical Council recognised trainer. He holds a postgraduate certificate in medical education and is the expert breast tutor for the University of Central Lancashire Medical School.

He regularly lectures on the University of Salford Advanced Medical Imaging Programme and teaches on the North West School of Surgery Higher Surgical Training Programme.

He has written multiple peer reviewed publications in breast surgery and has presented his work nationally and internationally. He has been invited onto multiple journal editorial boards to share his expertise.
