Arif Shuakat Personal Profile

Dr Arif Shaukat is a highly experienced Consultant Clinical Oncologist with over 20 years of expertise in treating upper and lower gastrointestinal (GI), neuroendocrine, thyroid, and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) cancers.

He began his medical training in Dudley, Birmingham, and the North Wales Cancer Centre, before completing specialist oncology training at the Beatson Oncology Centre.

From 2005 to 2011, Dr Shaukat worked as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with a focus on GI, head and neck, and thyroid cancers. During this time, he also served on the ethics committee and was a member of the Clinical Network Team for Upper GI and HPB cancers.

In 2011, he moved to King Fahad Medical City in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, where he led the GI cancer service and helped establish a dedicated lower GI cancer programme through regional collaboration.

Between 2014 and 2018, Dr. Shaukat worked at Prince Sultan Military Medical City, where he held leadership roles as Head of the Radiation Department and Head of the Research Department. He continued to focus on GI, HPB, neuroendocrine, and thyroid cancers.

Since 2018, Dr Shaukat has been based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he continues to specialise in these areas and also leads the SABR (Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy) service.

Dr Shaukat is actively involved in clinical research, particularly in GI and HPB cancers and SABR trials. He serves as Principal or Co-Investigator in several studies and has contributed to national and international treatment guidelines.

Please note that Dr Shaukat offer consultations only for bowel, gallbladder, liver, oesophageal and stomach cancer at Albyn Hospital.
