Undergraduate Open scholarship to Oxford (preclinical) Royal London Hospital (clinical) Qualified 1981.
His cardiology training was between 1987-1991 at the National Heart Hospital and Royal Brompton Hospital London. In 1991-1994 he was senior registrar at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. In 1994 he was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at Trent Cardiac Centre in Nottingham University Hospitals. He gained an MD on catheter ablation 1992 Papers on ablation, pacing, defibrillators and stents. He is a member of the British Medical Association and Heart Rhythm UK.
