About Mr Ankur Shah

Personal Profile

Mr Ankur Shah qualified in 1997 and completed basic surgical training from the prestigious University of Mumbai in 2000. He moved to the UK in 2002, completed advanced training in general, liver, pancreas, gallbladder surgery (HPB-Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary) and Liver transplant in the UK from 2002 to 2009.

During this tenure, he carried out advanced research with the University of Bristol on liver cancers. On his return to India in 2010, he worked as a Consultant, eventually leading up to a Senior consultant in General, HPB and liver transplant surgery till 2018.

He migrated back to the UK in 2018. He has been working as Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon, with a special interest in Benign HPB surgery. He was initially based in London and subsequently at East Kent Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (William Harvey Hospital) since April 2019.

He has more than 20 published papers and 100 presentations at national and international level. Mr Ankur Shah has been awarded prizes for his contribution at national and international level.

He has been appointed as an Honorary Academic at the University of Kent and he is also an examiner with the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Currently, he is the Lead for Hot Gall Bladder Service, Teaching, Audit and Morbidity & Mortality Lead for Surgical team at William Harvey Hospital.
