He completed his basic medical training through the SHO rotation from September 1995 to January 1999 within the Oxfordshire Deanery. Dr Taneja earned his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) qualifications from both the UK and Ireland.
From 1999 to 2009, he undertook higher specialist training, primarily through the London Deanery, with a brief period at the Cambridge Deanery. He completed an MSc in Cardiology from Imperial College's National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) with distinction. Following this, he earned an MD in Heart Failure from the Royal Brompton Hospital, affiliated with Imperial College London. Dr Taneja was subsequently awarded Fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology and was also nominated as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh.
His extensive training covers heart failure, diagnostic invasive coronary angiography, pacing, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, valve disorders, coronary artery disease, and thrombosis.
Dr Taneja has served as the Regional Specialty Advisor for Cardiology for the Oxford region, appointed by the Royal College of Physicians and the British Cardiac Society since 2021. Additionally, he was a member of the Clinical Standards Committee of the British Cardiac Society from 2020 to 2023. Since 2022, he has also been a panel member of the Fellowship Grading Committee of the Royal College of Physicians in London.
He has delivered numerous presentations at national and international cardiology society meetings, including the British, American, and European societies. His work has been recognized with a nomination for the top 10 abstracts by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Furthermore, he has published articles in various peer-reviewed journals and contributed to book chapters focusing on acute coronary syndrome.
Dr Taneja holds full accreditation in Echocardiography from both the British Society of Echocardiography and the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging. He has completed Level 2 Cardiac CT training and is an accredited member of both the British Society of Cardiac Imaging and the Society of Cardiac CT in the USA. Additionally, he completed a Level 3 Cardiac CT course from the Plymouth Radiology Academy and pursued an advanced course in nuclear cardiology at Imperial College, Royal Brompton, and Harefield Hospital.
He manages all aspects of cardiology disorders.
Dr Taneja is passionate about teaching. He served as the Director of the MRCP PACES course for PASTEST for over four years, from 2007 to 2012. He continues to contribute to medical education as an MRCP PACES examiner for the Royal College of Physicians in London.
Furthermore, Dr Taneja has held leadership roles in clinical governance. He served as the Lead of the Clinical Improvement Group for the Cardiology Department at Whipps Cross Hospital and previously led the Clinical Improvement Group for Acute Medicine.
