Training
Mr. Iossifidis trained in the University of Montpelier, France, for his medical degrees, which means he is a surgeon, but also a medically qualified doctor, giving him an excellent understanding of the patient as a whole. He qualified as a medical Doctor in 1984.
He continued his surgical training in the UK at the Norwich / Cambridge area, which took him through a host of internationally renowned surgeons, allowing him further to hone and specialise his interest in orthopaedic surgery and ultimately in upper limb surgery.
He was subsequently selected through competitive entry to Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals and the high surgical training rotation there, where he was good enough to stay as a specialist Registrar and was then appointed as a Senior Registrar in Orthopaedic surgery. Throughout this period, he was mentored by the key host orthopaedic surgeons at these hospitals by Professor Fred Heatley, who has been one of the leading orthopaedic surgeons in the UK.
After his specialist training in upper limb surgery, he further sub-specialised and did fellowship training, which took him through the South-East of England including London, as well as travelling internationally to New York. He felt that this was important opportunity to further consolidate and enhance his international background and coordinate the different aspects of shoulder surgery allowing him to be a super-specialist in this area.
Mr Iossifidis was appointed and is still currently works as an NHS based surgeon at Croydon University Hospital, since 1997, where he treats trauma and elective patients. He created and leads the upper limb unit at Croydon University Hospital, and is an expert in all aspects of shoulder surgery, focusing on key-hole techniques but employing other techniques when required. He has an international background, being Greek and is also a fluent French speaker. He has managed to use and enhance some of his early years in training with his ability to build relationships and communicate as the clinical lead at the Croydon University Hospital.

Modern procedures (keyhole surgery)
Most shoulder operations can now be performed using arthroscopic (keyhole) techniques rather than open surgery and often performed in day surgery.
Keyhole shoulder surgery has advanced significantly in recent years and has become the treatment of choice. It is a minimally invasive surgery (much like robotic surgery) using a small camera, instruments and radiofrequency probe, inserted in the joint through 5mm skin incisions and can often be performed in day surgery. It is less traumatic, with small scars and allows a faster recovery.
