About Andrew Vanezis

Personal Profile

Dr Vanezis is an interventional cardiologist who prides himself on delivering high quality, timely and patient centred care. His NHS practice is at the Trent Cardiac Centre in Nottingham where he is the clinical governance lead for cardiology focusing on patient safety.

He grew up in London and Glasgow and obtained his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh and his PhD from the University of Leicester. He spent a year at the CK Hui Heart centre in Edmonton, Canada where he obtained a fellowship in complex coronary intervention. Dr Vanezis has published widely in the field of ischaemic conditioning and has designed and run clinical trials. His research profile can be found at www.researchgate.net/profile/Andrew-Vanezis. He is currently the principle investigator in Nottingham for the international clinical research trial SELUTION-DENOVO.

He has a passion for medical education and training the next generation of doctors as well as allied healthcare professionals. He has recently developed a simulation programme within the catheter labs in Nottingham to improve team working and clinical skills for all staff which has received excellent feedback. In addition, he is a faculty member of the Academy of Forensic Medical Sciences (AFMS) and an Advance Life Support (ALS) instructor.

He is married to a busy local GP. He is a keen gardener and enjoys playing and watching various sports. He is also an avid reader and enjoys travelling and cooking.

Clinical Interests

Dr Vanezis treats coronary artery disease with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using state of the art technology and adhering to contemporary evidenced based practice. His particular interest is treating complex disease including chronic total occlusions (arteries that have been blocked for a long period of time). He performs more than 98 percent of all such procedures through the wrist and has very low complication rates.

As well as treating coronary artery disease and chest pain, Dr Vanezis also offer investigations and management for breathlessness, swollen ankles, heart failure, dizzy spells, faints/blackouts, palpitations, arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation as well as offering ‘heart check-ups’.
