Andrew is a Consultant Dermatologist at St John’s Institute of Dermatology within Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals, London. St John’s Institute of Dermatology is one of the world's leading centres for the investigation and treatment of patients with skin disease. He is the Operational Lead of the Clinical Trials Unit at St John’s, an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at King’s College London and the ex-Honorary Secretary of the St John’s Dermatological Society.
Andrew trained at the University of Nottingham Medical School and qualified in 2004. After completing his general medical training he was awarded the first National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Academic Clinical Fellowship in Dermatology, based at St John’s Institute. He received an MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship to undertake and complete a PhD during his dermatology training and then became an Academic Clinical Lecturer at the Institute prior to taking his Consultant role. His PhD focussed on understanding the genetics and cause of acne-related diseases and psoriasis.
Andrew continues to be very actively involved in skin research, both through developing and running the Clinical Trials Unit at St John’s and within his role in the Skin Therapy Research Unit at King’s College London. The Unit’s current research includes studies to investigate the genetic changes that underlie some skin diseases, why some patients respond to therapies and others do not (with a view to personalising therapy), and the safety and effectiveness of new and current treatments.
Andrew has been involved in constantly improving dermatology clinical services at St John’s and his team were awarded the British Medical Journal Dermatology Team of the Year award in 2016.
Dr Pink is widely published in peer-reviewed dermatology journals and has received numerous distinguished prizes including a Medical Research Council Centenary Award. He is regularly an invited lecturer at national and international dermatology conferences and is a passionate teacher at Guys and St. Thomas’ Hospitals.
Andrew consults on all general dermatology, eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, acute rashes and skin cancer. He has a weekly clinic at Mount Alvernia Hospital.
