He qualified in Liverpool having trained and practiced in Manchester since 1992. He is a member of The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Mr Pickersgill practices both obstetrics and gynaecology, although his main interests are keyhole surgery for a wide range of gynaecological disorders. His background is infertility, and whilst working in an IVF unit he became interested in keyhole surgery, particularly for people with fertility problems. He visits other hospitals to teach keyhole surgery and also teaches advanced keyhole surgery at the University of Surrey.
He is a keen teacher and has written 3 text books for doctors in obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as participating in the development of other education resources for patients. He has several publications and is often invited to lecture at local and national scientific meetings.
