He studied Medicine at Edinburgh University, where he also completed a BSc in Neuroscience. After his basic surgical training in Edinburgh, he was selected for the highly regarded Oswestry rotation for his advanced surgical training.
In 2011, he became the National Spine Fellow in Leeds, where he trained under both leading spinal neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons. During this time, he also contributed to teaching and helped develop spinal surgery services in developing countries.
Since becoming a consultant, Andrew has focused entirely on spinal conditions, performing thousands of operations and treating a wide range of back and neck problems. He is known for his expertise, skill, dedication, and compassionate care.
At Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Andrew is part of the spine and trauma on-call team, covering the whole of Northern Scotland. He regularly performs emergency, life-saving spinal surgeries for patients involved in serious accidents, as well as complex procedures for conditions like spinal cord compression caused by cancer or infection.
In addition to his clinical work, Andrew is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen. He is actively involved in research, has published numerous papers on spinal surgery, and is passionate about training the next generation of doctors. His commitment to education was recognised when he was named Trainer of the Year by Scottish orthopaedic trainers.
Andrew stays up to date with the latest advances in spinal surgery by attending national and international conferences, ensuring his patients benefit from the most current techniques and knowledge.
