Personal Profile

Dr Amber Johnston is a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Psychologist with almost two decades of expertise in neuropsychological rehabilitation and private practice. She specialises in the assessment, treatment, and support of individuals affected by emotional distress, neurological injuries, health conditions, and trauma. Throughout her career, Dr Johnston has worked across diverse clinical settings, including inpatient rehabilitation units, long-term care, neurorehabilitation services, and private outpatient clinics, offering comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of conditions.

From 2017 to 2020, Dr Johnston also worked as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist at Circle Reading, where she developed psychological services for an inpatient neurological rehabilitation unit. In 2019, Dr Johnston founded Healthy Mind Psychology, Ltd., where she serves as Director and Clinical Psychologist. As the founder and leader of a team of 26+ specialist psychologist associates, Dr Johnston ensures that her practice meets the diverse needs of its patients across a range of physical and emotional struggles.

Dr Johnston's approach combines traditional psychological tools with a deep understanding of the mind-body connection. She believes in educating patients about how the brain and body work together, teaching them new methods to overcome stress and achieve their personal goals. Her expertise extends to individuals who require cognitive assessment, emotional support after neurological injury or stroke, or those with medically unexplained symptoms and Functional Neurological Disorder, including health anxiety.  Dr Johnston has a special interest in working with trauma, redefining trauma as both the “big T’s” and the smaller struggles (“little t’s”) that plague our minds and bodies.

Dr Johnston has additionally completed advanced training in several areas, including a Certificate Program in Advanced Trauma, PTSD, and Dissociation (2023), Pain Reprocessing Therapy Practitioner Certification (2023), EMDR Practitioner training (2023) and Medico-Legal Expert Witness Training (2019). Additionally, she has presented at multiple conferences and regularly engages with the media on topics such as pain psychology, breaking the stigma of seeing a psychologist, mind/body conditions, and neuropsychological principles for all.

As a clinical practitioner, educator, and leader, Dr Johnston is dedicated to expanding the understanding of the mind-body connection and making psychological support accessible to everyone. She is passionate about bridging the gap between psychological and medical services and advocates for the importance of psychological care for patients with neurological and chronic health conditions.
