Clinical Interests

Clinical Interests

  • As a gastroenterologist I manage a wide variety of disorders affecting the intestine and liver. I also do endoscopic examinations of the stomach (gastroscopy) and bowel (colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy).

  • My particular areas of interest include inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), celiac disease and irritable bowel syndrome.

  • I have undertaken a period of research in viral hepatitis and this remains one of my specialist fields. As well as diagnostic endoscopic procedures, I also do ‘therapeutic’ procedures including ERCPs to remove stones from bile ducts or insert stents to relieve blockages in the ducts and I carry out balloon dilatations of ‘strictures’ (areas of narrowing in the gullet or intestine).
