About Mr Alistair McCleary

Mr Alistair McCleary has been a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at York Hospital, with more than 20 years of experience in the specialty. He has extensive expertise in the management of vascular conditions, including arterial and venous disease, varicose veins and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
Mr McCleary completed his medical and surgical training in Cambridge, Oxford, Leeds and Adelaide. Alongside his clinical practice, he has maintained an active interest in research, particularly in carotid artery disease. He is also interested in endovascular techniques for treating arterial and venous conditions, as well as minimally invasive approaches that can offer alternatives to traditional surgery.
He has embraced modern treatments for varicose veins, including minimally invasive procedures that can often be performed under local anaesthesia. In addition to his vascular practice, he provides comprehensive treatment options for hyperhidrosis and facial blushing, ranging from Botox injections and oral medication to surgical procedures such as thoracoscopic sympathectomy and retrodermal curettage.
He also serves as Treasurer of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland, reflecting his involvement in the wider vascular surgery community.
