Mr Alex Tzivanakis is a Consultant General and Colorectal surgeon at the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute, Basingstoke in Hampshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and is a partner in Basingstoke Colorectal Partners at the Hampshire Clinic.

His clinical interests are Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intaperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) for the treatment of peritoneal malignancy (advanced colorectal cancer, pseudomyxoma and peritoneal mesothelioma) along with Laparoscopic and open surgery for colorectal cancer, diverticula disease, appendix conditions, hernia surgery, colonoscopy and treatment of haemorrhoids, anal fistula/fissures.

He graduated with a bachelor of medicine and surgery (MBBS) along with a BSc (Hons) in Immunology from Imperial College London in 2005. He completed his research into a novel technique for early detection of bowel cancer in Oxford Hospitals and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine Degree in 2014 from Cardiff University. He completed his higher surgical training in Wessex deanery focusing in general, laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery. He spent a year training in Peritoneal Malignancy in North Hampshire and Basingstoke Hospital. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2016.

Mr Tzivanakis has published and presented both nationally and internationally in the fields of Peritoneal Malignancy and Colorectal surgery. He is actively involved in clinical research at the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute, Basingstoke and is involved in teaching of medical students and junior doctors. He is currently an external examiner for the University of Oxford Medical School.
