Personal Profile

Mr Nicholls graduated in 2004 from the University of Birmingham Medical School with dual degrees in Medical Science and Medicine.

After house officer training he taught anatomy at Birmingham Medical School before undertaking critical care training in Sydney, Australia. He returned to the UK and settled in Hampshire for Surgical and Orthopaedic training rotations in the Wessex Region. He completed his Orthopaedic Training in 2017 with an MSc in Trauma Surgery and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, FRCS(Tr&Orth). 

In addition, Mr Nicholls has undertaken the following prestigious specialist overseas fellowship training:

  • 2017     Kadoorie Fellowship – Children’s Surgical Centre, Cambodia – Trauma Reconstruction
  • 2017-8  Sydney & St Luke’s Hand Fellowship – Sydney Hospital, Australia – Hand & Microsurgery
  • 2018-9  Australian Orthopaedic Assoc. Upper Limb Fellowship – Specialty Orthopaedics, Sydney
  • 2019     Travelling Fellowship – California, USA – Neil Jones, David Slutsky and Jeffrey Yao

In March 2019 Mr Nicholls was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a specialist practice in hand and upper limb surgery in both Winchester and Basingstoke.

Mr Nicholls is interested in all aspects of hand and upper limb surgery for pain, arthritis, sports injuries and trauma. He has particular interests in Dupuytren’s disease, nerve surgery, tendon surgery, trauma, reconstruction and deformity correction. He is an active member of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), and recognises the importance of keeping up to date with the latest technologies and procedures for the benefit of his patients.
