About Alex Baneke

Alex is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon specialising in glaucoma and cataract surgery. He holds degrees from Oxford University and University College London. The majority of his 7-year ophthalmic speciality training was spent at the worldrenowned Moorfields Eye Hospital, concluding with an 18-month fellowship in surgical glaucoma. There he developed significant expertise in treating patients with both routine and complex glaucoma and cataract.

Alex has extensive research experience, including a research fellowship in glaucoma at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, and his work has been published internationally. He runs fellowships at Southend and Orsett hospitals training eye surgeons in glaucoma and cataract surgery.

He is experienced in both routine and complex cataract surgery including dealing with cataract in patients with advanced glaucoma, retinal disease and uveitis. Alex uses the most up to date imaging, diagnostic and treatment modalities for glaucoma. He offers the following surgery - phacoemulsification, trabeculectomy, Paul and Baerveldt tubes, Preserflo and Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery, or MIGS.

He offers medical treatment (eye drops), laser (selective laser trabeculoplasty and peripheral iridotomy), and surgery.
