About Dr Albert Edwards

Personal Profile

Dr Albert Edwards is a highly experienced Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital, with a specialist focus on urological cancers including prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer, as well as colorectal malignancies. He is also a key member of the Maidstone Prostate Brachytherapy team, contributing to advanced cancer care across the region.

Dr Edwards graduated from University College London Medical School in 1999, and completed his specialist training in Clinical Oncology across London and Essex. His pursuit of excellence led him to undertake two prestigious fellowships: a Head and Neck Radiation Oncology Clinical Fellowship in Toronto, and a Prostate Brachytherapy Fellowship in Guildford, where he spent two years refining his expertise in precision radiotherapy.

He specialises in delivering brachytherapy, image-guided radiotherapy, and systemic anticancer treatments, including cytotoxic chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapies, and targeted agents. His approach combines cutting-edge technology with personalised care, ensuring patients receive the most effective and least invasive treatments available.

D. Edwards has extensive experience in the use of SpaceOAR hydrogel perirectal spacers, a technique that helps protect healthy tissue during prostate radiotherapy. His expertise in this area has led to his consultation with the NICE Interventional Procedures Committee, advising on safety and best practices.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Edwards serves as Joint Lead for Radiotherapy at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, where he plays a key role in service development and quality improvement.
