Mr Akshay Mehra is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in hip and knee surgery.
He completed his medical degree at Agra Medical School in India in 1996. After moving to the UK in 1999, he began training in general surgical specialties and achieved Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2002.
He then joined the higher surgical training programme in Birmingham in 2005 and went on to obtain Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2009. He completed his specialist training in 2011.
To further develop his expertise, Mr Mehra completed a one-year fellowship in hip and knee surgery at Leicester General Hospital. He also gained additional experience in complex hip and knee reconstructive surgery during a six-month fellowship at St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
In 2013, he was appointed as a full-time Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Alexandra Hospital, Redditch.
Mr Mehra has a strong interest in research and has published widely in peer-reviewed medical journals. He has also contributed a chapter on hip surgery in a specialist medical textbook. His work has been presented at both national and international conferences.
Alongside his clinical and academic work, he is actively involved in teaching and training doctors on the Birmingham orthopaedic training programme, supporting the development of future surgeons.
Outside of work, Mr Mehra enjoys spending time with his family and playing badminton.
He is committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based care for patients with hip and knee conditions, with a focus on improving mobility, reducing pain, and supporting long-term recovery.
