About Ahmed Ibrahim
Personal Profile
Mr Ahmed Ibrahim is a Consultant Gynaecologist at Woodlands Hospital in Darlington. He welcomes both self-paying and NHS, and soon insured patients.
While a GP referral is usually required for insured patients, he is also happy to see patients directly for advice, diagnosis, or second opinions.
He has a specialist interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery, endometriosis, and infertility. Mr Ibrahim holds dual consultant-level experience from both the UK and internationally and is known for delivering high-quality, individualised care with a calm and compassionate approach.
At Woodlands Hospital, Mr Ibrahim provides expert assessment and treatment for a wide range of gynaecological conditions. He focuses on:
- Keyhole surgery for endometriosis
- Pelvic pain
- Ovarian cysts

- Menstrual disorders
- Subfertility
His consultations are thorough and patient-centred, ensuring women are listened to, fully informed, and involved in every step of their care. He also holds an NHS consultant post at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, where he leads the development of a dedicated endometriosis service.
Patients consistently describe Mr Ibrahim as approachable, clear and highly professional. His ability to translate complex medical information into understandable language, combined with his surgical expertise puts patients at ease. His laparoscopic surgery outcomes are excellent, and he applies enhanced recovery techniques to help patients return to normal life more quickly. He is particularly sought after for his expertise in managing severe endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, and fertility-preserving surgery.
He is dedicated to fertility-preserving treatments and supporting women trying to conceive through minimally invasive, personalised care.
He has particular expertise in managing complex endometriosis, including deep pelvic disease, and works closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic, coordinated care. His approach combines attentive listening, clear communication, and tailored treatment planning.
He also manages tubal conditions such as adhesions and scarring. Whether surgery is required or not, Mr Ibrahim prioritises safe, effective care to help women recover quickly and improve their quality of life.
He trained in the North East of England and completed his advanced laparoscopic training for endometriosis at James Cook University Hospital - a nationally recognised centre of excellence. He also undertook advanced training in subfertility and benign gynaecological surgery. Mr Ibrahim has been a consultant since 2013, having initially held a senior academic position at Cairo University, where he continues to serve as an Associate Professor.
He is committed to education and is a faculty member of the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) national laparoscopic training programme. He regularly teaches on regional and national courses and has contributed to the development of surgical training initiatives and service improvement projects, including day-case laparoscopic surgery in line with GIRFT recommendations.
Mr Ibrahim works closely with a wide network of colleagues across anaesthetics, fertility, colorectal surgery, urology, radiology, and pain management. His team-based approach ensures patients benefit from a fully integrated care pathway tailored to their specific needs.
Outside of his clinical work, he lives in the North East with his wife and three children. He enjoys family life, playing squash and rowing.
