About Mr Ahmad Sulaiman Khaled

Personal Profile

Mr Khaled is a UK-trained consultant trauma and revision arthroplasty orthopaedic surgeon with additional dual fellowship post-CCT training experience.

Mr Khaled graduated with MBChB from the University of Glasgow in 2011. Following completion of foundation training in Scotland and core surgical training in the Southwest, he completed a clinical research fellowship at University College London Hospital before undertaking his trauma and orthopaedics specialist training at Northwest Manchester Deanery.

Mr Khaled completed two prestigious fellowships in arthroplasty at Wrightington Hospital and Sheffield Teaching Hospital (The Cavendish Fellowship). Wrightington Hospital, renowned as the birthplace of modern total hip replacement under Sir John Charnley's pioneering work, is internationally recognised for its leadership in hip and knee arthroplasty techniques. This foundation provided extensive experience in both primary and complex joint replacement surgery. The Cavendish Fellowship at Sheffield, known for high-volume revision arthroplasty and cutting-edge techniques, further developed his expertise in managing complex and revision joint reconstructions.

Mr Khaled has worked across various hip and knee units and major trauma centres, acquiring comprehensive experience in both elective and trauma management. He has trained alongside world-renowned orthopaedic experts and is proficient in all aspects of hip and knee arthroplasty, including primary, complex primary, revision, and mega prosthetic surgery. His expertise extends to non-surgical management and active participation in local and regional MDT discussions for complex cases.

Mr Khaled has extensive experience with patient-specific instrumentation and customised implants across various implant systems, with particular interest in enhanced recovery protocols and day-case surgery facilitation. In acute management, he specialises in periprosthetic fractures and prosthetic joint infections, expertise gained through his fellowships at dedicated revision centres and infection management units.

Teaching remains central to Mr Khaled's career. He holds a diploma in clinical education. He works closely with trainees and medical students from various universities and training programmes in order to help shaping the next generation of doctors. He currently serves as an educational and clinical supervisor for medical students and trainee surgeons and has been a faculty for various courses.

Mr Khaled began his consultant career as a substantive revision hip and knee arthroplasty surgeon at Whiston Hospital, a CQC-rated outstanding trust. During his tenure at Whiston, he served as the lead for the enhanced recovery programme, with particular focus on improving length of stay and facilitating early patient recovery.

Mr Khaled now practises at Wrightington Hospital, where he continues to utilise his clinical expertise and interpersonal skills to maintain the highest standards of patient care whilst contributing to the world-renowned departmental excellence for which the institution is known.
