About Dr Aengus Murphy

Personal Profile

Dr Aengus Murphy qualified with Honours from Trinity College, University of Dublin in 2001. He has worked and trained in Cardiology in the West of Scotland since this time, apart from a year in Vancouver Island, Canada, having been awarded the British Society of Interventional Cardiology (BCIS) scholarship in 2012.

He also spent two years in the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, undertaking post-graduate research in heart failure epidemiology and cardiac MRI.

Dr Murphy has worked in NHS Lanarkshire as a Consultant Cardiologist since 2013 and has extensive experience in assessing cardiac symptoms, managing cardiovascular disease and addressing risk factors. His particular sub-interest is management of coronary artery disease, and he is an experienced PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) operator.

Dr Murphy holds managerial positions within the NHS, including Clinical Lead for Cardiology in University Hospital Monklands, and Clinical Lead for the Cath Lab in University Hospital Hairmyres.
