He then under took a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) at the University Liverpool, in Translational Cancer Biology studying Cellular interactions in the Pancreatic and Colorectal Cancer microenvironment. This research was funded by a Prestigious Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Grand Lodge 250th anniversary Fund of the Freemasons.
Mr. Sheikh undertook his higher surgical training in the Mersey region working in high volume Colorectal units undergoing specific training in Inflammatory Bowel disease, Pouch surgery and Abdominal Wall reconstruction surgery. He was then awarded a National Laparoscopic and Advanced Colorectal Cancer Fellowship at the John Goligher Colorectal Surgery Unit, St James Hospital Leeds where he was trained by internationally recognised specialists.
As Colorectal Lead at East Lancashire NHS Trust, Mr. Sheikh works closely in a multidisciplinary team allowing him to provide the best possible care to his patients.
The majority of his spare time is spent with his wife an Endocrinologist and their 2 children.
My practice also entails treating pelvic floor disorders, undertaking both laparoscopic and pelvic approaches for treat these disorders. At the same time I also undertake all aspects of proctology in particular fistula management, performing plug surgery, advancement flap and LIFT procedures.
I am recognised by the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy as an accredited Colorectal specialist for the treatment of complex endometriosis and am a Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accredited endoscopist.
