Dealing with post-stroke issues
A stroke happens when a part of the brain is damaged either by lack of blood supply (ischaemic stroke) or bleeding (haemorrhagic stroke).
Some people recover quickly from a stroke, but around two-thirds will have a degree of disability and impairment.
If your family member or loved one has had a stroke, they may have experienced changes in their:
- emotional state
- perception
- speech
- swallowing
- motor and sensory functions
- vision
- bladder and bowel control
- cognitive ability (mental processing)
While some effects might be permanent, there is often potential for improvement, especially if they gain early and ongoing rehabilitation.
Medicine has come a long way in providing physical and cognitive support for stroke sufferers. The brain is remarkably resilient and so are people.
At our rehabilitation centre, or highly skilled team of experts will work with your loved one to improve normal function, build confidence and optimise their potential.
