Private breast health mammogram
A Breast Health Mammogram is a simple and effective screening tool designed to detect potential signs of breast cancer, even before any symptoms appear.
If you are over the age of 40, a mammogram is an important step in maintaining your breast health. We offer private annual mammogram screening for women aged 40 and over, providing reassurance even when there are no signs and symptoms of breast disease.
Early detection through this screening can help identify small, treatable changes in breast tissue, offering peace of mind and allowing for quicker intervention if necessary. At Circle Health Group, the Breast Health Mammogram package is available at selected hospitals.
The package includes a clinical triage, screening mammogram and analysis of your results. The cost of the package is £250, and you don't need a GP referral to book making it easy and convenient to access the service
You are eligible to book a breast health mammogram if you are aged 40 or older and not currently experiencing any breast symptoms such as lumps or nipple changes. Please note that breast pain on its own is not an exclusion criterion for this screening service.
If you haven't had a mammogram in the last 12 months, this is a great opportunity to stay proactive about your breast health.
Should you have any concerns about whether a mammogram is right for you, our experienced team is available to guide you through the process and answer any questions.
During a breast screening, you will first be greeted by a nurse or radiographer who will ask about your medical history and explain the process.
The mammogram itself is a quick and straightforward procedure. You will be asked to stand in front of a special X-ray machine, where your breast will be placed on a flat surface and gently compressed to capture clear images.
The compression helps to spread the breast tissue evenly, allowing for the most accurate results. The procedure is brief, typically lasting only a few minutes, though the compression may feel uncomfortable for a short time.
Once the images are taken, they are carefully reviewed by a specialist who will prepare a detailed report.
If anything unusual is detected, you will be contacted to discuss your results and discuss next steps. The entire process is designed to be as comfortable and efficient as possible, with minimal disruption to your day.
The Breast Health Mammogram package is designed to provide a thorough assessment of your breast health.
It starts with a nurse or radiographer triage, where your medical history is reviewed, and any questions or concerns you may have can be discussed.
This ensures that the screening is suitable for your needs.
Afterward, the mammogram is performed, and the images are carefully analysed by a Consultant Radiologist. You will receive a detailed expert report on the results, and if any further tests are necessary, we will support you through the next steps.
Breast screening is one of the most effective ways to detect potential signs of breast cancer early, especially for women who do not currently have any symptoms. By identifying changes in breast tissue at an early stage, mammograms offer the opportunity to intervene sooner, which can lead to better treatment options and outcomes.
Early detection also means that treatments can often be less invasive, and recovery times may be quicker.
For women aged 40 and over, it is recommended to have regular mammograms to monitor for any changes in the breast tissue. If your results come back clear, it provides you with peace of mind.
However, if anything unusual is detected, early intervention can significantly improve treatment success.
It's important to know what a mammogram can and cannot do. While it is an excellent tool for spotting early signs of breast cancer, a mammogram does not prevent cancer from developing. Some types of cancer may not be visible on the scan, particularly if they are in the very early stages which are not yet detectable or if you have dense breast tissue.
However, mammograms can detect many types of cancer and abnormalities that may not be noticeable otherwise.
If you are called back and advised you need further tests after your screening, don’t be alarmed. This happens to around 4-8% of women and does not necessarily mean something is wrong. In most cases, the additional tests are just part of the thorough process to ensure that nothing is overlooked.
Mammography uses low-dose radiation, and the exposure is very minimal. The risks are extremely low compared to the potential benefits, and it is much lower than everyday exposure to natural radiation, such as from the sun.
The main benefit of breast screening is early detection.
If cancer cells are found, by identifying cancer early, there are usually more treatment options available, and the cancer is less likely to have spread. Early detection also allows for less invasive treatment options, which may result in a faster recovery.
Even if your mammogram results come back clear, you will have the reassurance of knowing that your breast health is being closely monitored. If anything unusual is detected, catching it early means that you can begin treatment quickly, giving you more options and increases your chances of better outcomes.
The ability to detect problems early allows you to take control of your health, making informed decisions that are best for you.
If you are aged 40 or older, it is recommended that you have a mammogram every year. This helps ensure that any changes in your breast tissue are caught early. If you have a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors, you may be advised to begin screening earlier or to have it more frequently.
