Private Oral and Maxillofacial Dorchester

Expert assessment and treatment of complex mouth, face, jaw, and neck disorders and concerns.

A Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is dual-qualified in both medicine and dentistry, and able to treat complex conditions of the mouth, face, jaw, and neck.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a highly specialised field of medicine, with far fewer Consultants than in other medical specialities. We are delighted to offer fast access to a leading Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon here at The Winterbourne Hospital in Dorchester, Dorset.

Booking a private appointment directly with us provides you with a bespoke approach to treatment. Contact us to book your visit today on 0808 271 9556 or book online via Mr Colbert’s profile.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of problems involving the teeth, mouth, face, jaw, or neck.

Reasons you may visit an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at The Winterbourne Hospital for treatment include:

  • Surgical removal of wisdom teeth, impacted canines, or buried roots
  • Treatment for cysts or tumours of the jaw
  • Screening for oral, head or neck cancer
  • Surgery to correct dental or facial deformities
  • Investigation and treatment of facial or dental pain
  • Treatment of salivary gland problems including tumours or stone removal
  • Facial skin surgery

Due to the complexity of many types of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, you may be referred to us by your GP or dentist, a consultant in another specialty such as ENT or Dermatology, or a Maxillofacial Specialist from outside the region. However, a referral is not necessary to be able to book an appointment with our Consultant at the Winterbourne, Mr. Colbert.

When you first visit us at The Winterbourne Hospital, your Consultant will take a medical history and ask you in detail about your symptoms and any concerns you may have. They will ask you questions like:

  • What symptoms do you have?
  • How long have you had these symptoms?
  • Do you have any pain in or around your head or neck?
  • Have any symptoms been getting worse?
  • Are you currently receiving any treatment (e.g. prescription medicine)?
  • How is your general health? Do you have any underlying medical conditions?

They will often carry out a physical examination and may feel your neck to determine whether your lymph glands are swollen.

During your appointment, any previous imaging results, such as dental X-rays or MRI scans will be reviewed. Where required, any of these can be easily arranged for you at the hospital if you haven’t previously had them, or they are not recent enough.

This could include:

  • X-ray (of individual teeth or the whole jaw – orthopantomography)
  • MRI scan
  • Blood tests

Once any results are back, your Consultant will be able to tailor a treatment plan for you. They will talk this through with you, explaining how any surgery will be done and the results you should expect from it. If you have any questions or concerns, they will be very happy to discuss these with you

If treatment is required, we will arrange for this to start as soon as possible.

Many of our patients are from Dorchester, Weymouth, Bridport, and the surrounding areas. We are conveniently located just off the A35, and less than a mile from the nearest train station.

We treat people with private medical insurance and self-pay patients.

When you book a private Oral and Maxillofacial appointment with us, you will benefit from:

  • Rapid access – Long waiting times on the NHS can be frustrating for many, as it often means that assessment and treatment is delayed. We can help you avoid these frustrations, by booking you a private appointment with an experienced Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon as soon as possible.
  • More time for you – A private appointment provides you with more time with your Consultant. In some healthcare settings, people can feel they are being hurried out the door almost as soon as they have arrived! This will not be your experience when you visit with us, and you will have plenty of time to talk with your Consultant through your symptoms and concerns.
  • Easy-to-book appointments – Private appointments are simple to book online or over the phone. Call 0808 271 9556 or book online today.
  • Consultant-led care – You will always see the same Consultant when you visit. They will oversee every aspect of your care, from initial appointment through to post-treatment follow-up. This ensures excellent continuity of care.
  • Fast turnaround of diagnostic tests – On-site radiologists report on X-rays, ultrasound and MRI scans promptly, so that the results are back with your Consultant as quickly as possible.
  • A wider team – Your Consultant can discuss complex cases with specialists in other fields when required, including oncology, dermatology, and anaesthetics.
  • Recommended by patients – In our patient satisfaction survey, 97.7% patients said they would be likely or extremely likely to recommend their consultant to their friends or family.
  • Location – The hospital is in Dorchester, Dorset and easy to access by both road and rail. Our car park is free for patients. Our hospital has recently been refurbished and provides a warm welcome to all our visitors.

Our experienced Consultants can help with all aspects of Oral & Maxillofacial / Head & Neck Surgery. They will investigate your symptoms, confirm a diagnosis, and create a bespoke treatment plan.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to The Winterbourne Hospital and helping you to access the Consultant-led care you need as soon as possible.
