Visiting The Saxon Clinic If You Are Autistic

Here at The Saxon Clinic, we are committed to supporting all our autistic patients and we have many supportive measures in place to ensure you have a good experience with us.

This page will tell you about the help and support available to you, as well as help you prepare for your trip to The Saxon Clinic.

Visiting the Saxon Clinic if you are autistic

The Saxon Clinic has recently achieved accreditation from the National Autistic Society!

The Autism Accreditation Programme is the UK’s only autism-specific quality assurance programme of support and development for all those providing services to autistic people. Achieving accreditation proves that an organisation is committed to understanding autism and setting the standard for autism practice. It is a way for organisations to show they offer excellent support to autistic children and adults.

Autism Champions:

We have Autism Champions working in each department, their pictures and names should be displayed in a rainbow frame, they can help you with:

  • Coming with you to your appointment.
  • Helping you to complete your additional needs passport.
  • Arranging a visit to the ward or department where you can meet staff who will be caring for you.
  • We can help you if you find it hard to say how you are feeling.
  • Work with you to make reasonable adjustments to our services.
  • Welcome any feedback you may have to improve our services.

Additional needs passport:

  • This is a document you should bring with you to hospital which tells staff important information about how we should care for you. It should be completed by you and people that know you such as carer, family member or close friend.

Sensory Boxes:

  • Each department has access to a sensory box. Please ask any member of staff if you would like to use it. Inside it has toys and fidgets to help distract you from any uncomfortable feelings you may experience.

Communication tools:

  • We have communication tools available in each department such as communication boards, feeling flash cards and visual timetables.

Quiet Space:

  • Currently we are unable to provide a quiet space at the Saxon Clinic. If you would prefer you can wait in your car, and we will call you when we are ready for you. You will need to check in at main reception so they can let staff know you have arrived, where you are waiting and what telephone number to contact you on.

Feedback:

  • We welcome any feedback on how we can improve our service for autistic patients. We have feedback forms available at reception which you can complete.

Our team have created some videos to help inform patients on what to expect before and after they arrive at The Saxon Clinic.

Here is the link to one of our videos which details how to get to us and what to expect if you are visiting our Outpatient Department.
