Hand & wrist surgery in Surrey

Relieve stiffness and pain in your hands and wrists with private surgery at The Runnymede Hospital.

We offer fast access to Consultant-led care for all common hand and wrist conditions. Patients come to us from Shepperton, Weybridge, Molesey, Esher, Downside, Cobham and Stoke d'Abernon.

During your initial consultation, your Orthopaedic Surgeon will ask about your symptoms and perform a physical examination of your hand and wrist. They may recommend an MRI, X-ray or CT scan to examine your affected hand or wrist.

Once a diagnosis has been made, your Consultant will work with a range of medical experts at The Runnymede Hospital to create a treatment plan tailored to your diagnosis and personal needs.

If possible, we’ll look to ease your pain with less invasive methods such as physiotherapy or joint injections. In some cases, your Consultant will recommend surgery. Rest assured that you’ll be in expert hands with us.

At The Runnymede Hospital in Chertsey, we specialise in surgeries for hand and wrist problems including:

Hand surgery for Dupuytren’s disease

Dupuytren’s disease causes one or more of your fingers to point towards your palm. In many cases this can be eased or even corrected by surgery. You might be recommended a fascietomy or a needle fasciotomy, two different procedures each designed to loosen and straighten the affected finger(s).

Carpal tunnel release surgery

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a condition where your median nerve (a nerve in your hand that passes through your wrist) becomes compressed. As a result, you could experience symptoms such as pain, numbness or a tingling sensation in your fingers and hands. Carpal tunnel release surgery can alleviate these symptoms by cutting your carpal ligament, which travels across the base of your palm, providing your median nerve and other nerves with more room to move.

Trigger finger release surgery

Stenosing tenosynovitis, often referred to as trigger finger, can cause pain and stiffness when you attempt to move your finger or thumb. If left untreated, your affected finger or thumb could become trapped in a bent position. However, trigger finger release surgery is a very effective treatment option. It is rare for the problem to reappear after surgery.

Wrist arthroscopy

A wrist arthroscopy is a keyhole operation used to diagnose and sometimes to treat damage to the structures inside your wrist. Conditions treatable with wrist arthroscopy include torn ligaments and ganglion cysts (fluid-filled lumps that can form near the wrist joint).
