The Runnymede Hospital is in the historic town of Chertsey in Surrey. People come to us from all over Surrey, including Addlestone, Weybridge, Cobham, Chobam, Byfleet and West Byfleet. We also welcome patients from further afield, and even overseas.

At The Runnymede Hospital, a bones and joint specialist (also known as an Orthopaedic Surgeon) will be able to tell you whether you could benefit from foot or ankle surgery. During your initial consultation, your Orthopaedic Surgeon will enquire about your symptoms, including when they first appeared and how these symptoms have been affecting your day-to-day life. Your Consultant will also perform a physical examination of your affected foot or ankle and could suggest an imaging scan such as an X-ray to view the inside your joint.

If possible, your Consultant will first recommend non-invasive treatment. This might be physiotherapy to encourage movement in your toes, feet or ankle, or injection therapy (steroid injections into your joint) to reduce swelling or pain. If your symptoms persist or the condition of your foot or ankle continues to deteriorate, only then will you be recommended surgery.

At The Runnymede Hospital, we perform a wide range of surgeries for foot and ankle conditions, with our most common procedures listed below:

Forefoot surgery starting from £4,948*

Your foot surgery will vary depending on your diagnosis. It could include removing bunions (bony growths on the side of your big toe), correcting a toe deformity such a hammer toe (where your small toes point upwards) by straightening your toes, or treating arthritis in your joint(s).

Toe surgery (bone fusion) starting from £1,707*

Toe fusion surgery (also known as arthrodesis) can be used to treat hallux rigidus (arthritis in your big toe) or a toe deformity such as hammer or claw toe, which cause your toes to bend in painful ways. This procedure involves removing the ends of your affected toe’s joint and fusing the bones together with screws or a metal plate.

Ankle arthroscopy starting from £2,850*

An ankle arthroscopy is a keyhole procedure that uses a few small incisions around the front or back of your ankle to pass an arthroscope (a thin tube with a camera attached to the end) into the joint. This allows your Orthopaedic Surgeon to view and treat any problems inside your ankle.

During an ankle arthroscopy, your Surgeon could remove any bone spurs (abnormal bone growth), inflamed synovium (a layer of cells that cover your joint) and loose bone or cartilage that could be floating inside your joint. This should improve any ankle pain and stiffness you've been experiencing. An arthroscopy can also be performed to reconstruct torn ligaments (connective tissue that joins one bone to another) inside your ankle.
