Healthy skin is important to our overall wellbeing, fitness and vitality.
Do you have concerns about your hair, skin, or nails? We know how worrying these conditions can be and the impact they can have on your day-to-day life.
Our leading dermatology consultants can help you:
Dermatology is the branch of medicine focused on conditions that affect the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes (such as the lining of the mouth).
This can include common conditions such as:
Your skin is the largest organ and is an important indicator of how your health is generally. Changes in how your skin looks or feels can be a sign that you may have a medical problem.
A dermatologist is an expert medical professional within this focused field who can diagnose and treat skin, hair and nail conditions. They can also manage cosmetic concerns, including hair loss and scars.
If you experience any of the following, we recommend you make an appointment with our consultant dermatologists:
Dermatology is not just about the diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions. In fact, the specialty finds solutions to issues affecting skin, hair, and nails.
Our leading dermatologists treat a wide range of conditions, which can be caused by:
Our dermatology consultants are highly experienced at diagnosing the causes of your condition, whatever they may be – for example, pinpointing rosacea, often mistaken for acne – or getting to the bottom of what is causing eczema (which can be genetic, caused by allergies, or even exacerbated by the wrong treatment or the impact of an unrelated treatment).
We offer a wide range of treatments, based on what will work best for you as an individual. These include:
If some form of treatment is necessary, our dermatologists cover a wide range of medical and surgical solutions, including many treatments that may be considered 'cosmetic' outside of private healthcare.
Common medical dermatology conditions we treat include:
Our surgical dermatology specialists are highly experienced at the surgical removal of:
Once your consultant has an idea of what may be concerning you, they may send you through for further tests to determine and diagnose your condition.
To help your consultant with their diagnosis and keep a track of your symptoms, it can be useful to keep a journal of your symptoms, when they occur, severity, potential triggers, and any actions you took to help ease the issue.
You may want to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that you can easily move or remove so your consultant can do the physical examination. Avoid wearing makeup or nail polish to the consultation, as this can make examining your skin or nails difficult.
This appointment is an opportunity to ask your consultant any questions you may have about your condition, diagnosis options, and available treatments.
Once your consultant has made their diagnosis, they will take you through different techniques available for treating your condition or, if necessary, suggest appropriate surgery. At this consultation stage you might also be referred to another one of our specialty consultants, if our dermatologists feel their colleague would be better suited to meeting your needs.
This multi-disciplinary approach is crucial to making to sure you get the best possible treatment from the most appropriate consultant. This approach also means you can be reassured that we will stay with you throughout your journey; your treatment will be a seamless experience, with everything you need 'under one roof' in an environment that is clean and safe, and where you come first.
In the case of dermatology, your consultant might, for example, refer you to one of their highly-trained colleagues who specialise in complex surgery, immunology, or a number of other areas. The most important thing is you are seen and treated by the expert consultant best suited to your specific circumstances.
Many treatments can be obtained immediately at our on-site pharmacy. If we prescribe injections, these are often done on the same day, while some more complex solutions may need to scheduled for the following one-to-two weeks.
If you do not require surgery we will also schedule a follow-up appointment one-to-three months later (dependent on the condition) so we can assess your progress.
If surgery is required, we aim to schedule for the following week or two after your consultation. This will be followed up with another appointment to assess your progress one to three months later, again depending on your specific circumstances.
Typically, initial consultations typically last 20 to 30 minutes. If you are returning for a follow-up appointment, these are usually 15 to 20 minutes.
The exact length of your appointment will depend on your specific needs and the complexity of your condition. We always aim to give you the time and space to address all your concerns.
For minor skin concerns, you may be able to have treatment during your initial consultation. If this is the case, you will be given a fixed price before you decide to go ahead with treatment. This will include any necessary aftercare or follow-up appointments.
If you would like a personalised quote for a particular dermatology treatment, give us a call and one of our friendly advisors can provide one.
If you are using private health insurance to pay, you should check with your insurance provider, as typically you will need a referral from a GP.
