Urogynaecology is a subspecialty of gynaecology. It focuses on problems with the bladder, bowel and vagina that are caused by weakness or damage in the pelvic floor muscles and tissues. It also incorporates some elements covered by urology.
A urogynaecologist is a gynaecologist who has had specialist training in bladder and pelvic floor problems in women.
You might be referred to urogynaecology if you are experiencing:
Common conditions treated by our expert team of urogynaecologists at Lincoln Private Hospital include:
You can be treated for pelvic floor problems with a regular gynaecologist, but a urogynaecologist can provide an extra understanding of complex pelvic floor disorders and knowledge of the best possible treatment options for you.
The cost of your urogynaecological treatment will depend on your tailored treatment plan.
If you are paying for yourself, you will usually be given a fixed-price package, which will include the cost of your treatment as well as all appropriate aftercare appointments. However, your consultant’s outpatient appointment consultation fee as well as the cost of any tests arranged during this will be charged separately.
Our flexible payment options help you spread the cost of your payment across a period that suits you. We offer fixed-term monthly payment plans from 10 months to five years with no deposit required.
If you have private health insurance, urogynaecology treatment will often be covered by your provider. Speak to your insurer directly beforehand to find out and confirm this.
Treatment for your urogynaecological concern will depend on your condition and your individual needs. Your consultant will assess your situation and make a tailored recommendation to suit your personal symptoms and circumstances.
Treatment options we offer at Lincoln Private Hospital include:
During your initial consultation, you will meet with one of our highly qualified consultant urogynaecologists and discuss your symptoms, medical and family history, and your daily lifestyle or habits. This is so your consultant can build an idea of what may be troubling you and causing your issues.
If necessary, they may perform a physical examination of your abdomen and or pelvic region to investigate further signs of concern.
If your consultant suspects you may have a concern and they want to investigate further, they will arrange tests and scans to clarify a diagnosis. This can include an ultrasound, urine tests, urodynamic studies (bladder function testing) or a cystoscopy.
Once you receive your results and your consultant has assessed all your information, they will talk you through what your next steps and recommend treatment based on your unique health needs.
