Cervical screening
A cervical screening test (smear test) is used to detect abnormal cells on the cervix, to identify any abnormalities at an early stage. If abnormal cells are detected, your consultant may recommend that these are removed before they can become cancerous.
Gynaecological hysteroscopy
A hysteroscopy examines the inside of the womb (uterus). A telescope is used to examine the uterus to assist the gynaecologist with their diagnosis.
A hysteroscopy is used to investigate symptoms such as unusual bleeding, heavy periods, fertility concerns and pelvic pain.
Hysterectomy surgery
A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the womb (uterus) and may be recommended if you have cancer of the ovaries, womb or cervix, fibroids, or a prolapse of the uterus.
A hysterectomy will only be carried out if your chosen gynaecologist believes it will benefit your health and quality of life.
Vaginal wall repair
Childbirth, obesity and age can cause the vaginal wall to become weak. This may result in a vaginal prolapse, incontinence, bowel problems or pelvic pain.
A vaginal wall repair also known as colporrhaphy, can repair and strengthens the walls of the vagina.
Oophorectomy surgery
Oophorectomy surgery is a procedure to remove the ovaries and can be used to treat chronic pelvic pain, ovarian cysts, an ectopic pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory disease and also lower the risk of ovarian cancer. It is important to note that after surgery you will not be able to get pregnant. This will need to be considered before having the operation.
Sterilisation reversal
Sterilisation is considered to be a permanent choice of birth control. Nevertheless, if you decide to reverse the operation The Lincoln Hospital can offer sterilisation reversal surgery, also known as microsurgical tubal reanastomosis.
The surgery employs the use of thin micro suture to carefully attach the tubes back together.
