Audiology is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing and balance problems. A person who specialises in this area is a Clinical Audiologist.
Whether you are experiencing balance problems, ringing in your ears (tinnitus), difficulty hearing speech in a noisy environment or any type of hearing loss, you may be referred to the Clinical Audiology Service for investigation. We work extremely closely with ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialists and many people are referred to us from them.
We provide comprehensive investigation, from simple to complex, for a wide range of hearing and balance concerns. Our services include:
- Standard Hearing Test
- Threshold Equalising Noise Test
- Uncomfortable Loudness Levels
- Speech in Quiet Tests
- Visible Speech Mapping
- Hearing aid fittings and repairs
- Real Ear Measurements
- Ear wax investigation and removal by Micro-Suction or Irrigation
- Video Head Impulse Test (vHIT) – used when investigating balance disorders
We can also help protect your hearing with custom-fitted headphone and earplugs, including swimming earplugs.
Audiology appointments may be 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, depending on what tests need to be carried out.
